The government decided because Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, a former top judge in Pakistan, said he couldn’t lead a team to look into certain claims.

Before this, some lawyers and community members asked the highest court to start an investigation themselves because they didn’t trust the one-person team the government picked. They sent a letter to the top court asking them to get involved because they thought it was important for everyone’s rights.

Some judges from a court in Islamabad wrote a letter saying they believed the government was putting pressure on judges by doing bad things to their families and watching them secretly. They questioned if there’s a special police force that threatens judges. This letter was sent to a few important judges, including the Chief Justice, and asked for action to be taken.

Now, a new team has been set up by the Chief Justice along with other judges to look into this matter. They’re going to start on Wednesday.

The former top judge, Jillani, who was supposed to lead the investigation, said he couldn’t do it because it’s not right for him to investigate something that should be dealt with by another important legal body. He thanked the government for trusting him but said the terms of the investigation didn’t really match what was needed.

He also said that the letter sent to the government is more about discussing things as a group, rather than starting a formal investigation. So, he decided not to lead the investigation.

The new investigation team will check if the claims made by the Islamabad judges are true. They’ll also see if anyone from the intelligence agencies did anything wrong. If they find out something happened, they’ll suggest what should be done about it. They might also look into other related issues if needed.
